Program Description:
This program is targeted to those colleges / universities that are self insured or have high deductibles for their secondary / excess insurance programs that also have domestic or primary insurance. This program does not provide "insurance" for uninsured athletes but simply provides schools the ability to obtain in-network discounts for those uninsured athletes. Frontline Insurance and their TPA partners would only get paid when the school actually receives savings due to the network discounts / repricing networks of their partners. The program would work for both intercollegiate claims as well as health and sickness claims.
How It Works:
1. The school would identify the number of uninsured athletes at their institution. (Example: 35 Domestic and 15 International Students) The school would need to enroll those 50 student athletes into a network plan that would cost the school $36 per person for the year (On this example the school would be invoiced $150 / month for the network enrollment fee which is $3 per person). The student / athletic trainer would receive an actual card that could be provided to your providers so that they could apply the network benefits as well as file claims.
2. A school administrator would inform the Frontline Insurance Claims and Benefits Department that an athlete has sustained and injury / illness that the intuition would be taking responsibility for payment.
3. The provider would submit all claims to Frontline Insurance at which time Frontline Insurance and its TPA system would negotiate claims and assess network benefits in an effort to reduce the billed charges.
4. On a weekly basis, the school would be invoiced for the amount of that is owed to the provider after the discounts have been applied. Upon receiving payment, the TPA will cut a check to the provider.
5. On a monthly basis Frontline would invoice the school 50% of the total claims savings as their fee for claims / benefits coordination as well as the discount fees. Example: Frontline would only get paid when and if a school receives a discount of billed charges. If $4000 was discounted / saved from a claim, Frontline would retain 50% or $2000 for their services.
Summary:
In the event that a school had 50 uninsured athletes that had a total of billed charges of $150,000 of which after the Frontline Self-Insured / TPA Program provided a total of 40% discounts (% varies based on provider, region and services provided) for a total of $60,000. The school would be required to pay $1800 for their network enrollment fee (annual fee). The school's net savings would be $28,200.
